Alignment with OECD Standards for

Chemicals Management

An OECD-UNITAR Capacity Building Programme

The OECD and UNITAR have collaborated over many years on multiple chemicals and waste topics, as part of the IOMC. These activities include: pollutant release and transfer registers (PRTRs), the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS), nanomaterials and nanotechnologies, industrial chemicals, the IOMC toolbox for Decision Making in Chemicals Management, and more.

In 2021, the OECD and UNITAR created a capacity building programme, dedicated to supporting countries and stakeholders in aligning with OECD standards (legal instruments) in the area of chemical safety. Such standards can be considered as providing the foundations for a comprehensive, sound management of chemicals system in countries.
